How to Merge PDF Files on Your Phone (Android and iPhone)

Combine PDFs into one file on an Android phone or iPhone using only your browser. Find your files, set the right order, merge, and avoid the usual mistakes.

Why merge on the phone itself

For many people the phone is the only device at hand when a document is needed. A hostel warden asks for your Aadhaar and college ID as one PDF, a recruiter wants all certificates in a single attachment, or a scholarship portal has just one upload button for supporting documents. Walking to a cyber cafe for this is slow and means leaving your files on a shared computer.

You do not need a special app to combine PDFs. A browser such as Chrome on Android or Safari on iPhone is enough. Filyzo’s Merge PDF tool runs inside the browser tab, so the files are joined on your phone and are not sent to any server.

Before you start: collect the files in one place

Most trouble on a phone comes from not knowing where a file is saved. Spend a minute gathering everything first.

On Android, PDFs you download from email or a website usually go to the Downloads folder. Files received on WhatsApp can be harder to find from a file picker, so open the chat, tap the document, and use the menu to save or share it to Downloads. On iPhone, open the PDF, tap the Share button and choose Save to Files, then pick a folder you will remember, such as Downloads on iPhone.

If one of your documents is a photo rather than a PDF, for example a picture of your Class 10 mark sheet, convert it first with JPG to PDF. Merge PDF accepts only PDF files.

  • Rename unclear files, such as document (3).pdf, to something meaningful
  • Delete old versions so you do not pick the wrong one by mistake
  • Keep all the files for one submission in the same folder

Step by step: merge PDFs in the browser

The steps are the same on Android and iPhone. Only the file picker looks a little different.

  • Open Filyzo in your browser and go to the Merge PDF tool.
  • Tap Select PDF files. On Android, choose Files or Browse to reach your folders; on iPhone, choose Browse to see the Files app.
  • Pick two or more PDFs. You can tap Select PDF files again later to add more, and the new files join the end of the list.
  • Check the list on screen. Use the up and down arrows next to each file to change its position, and the remove button to drop a file you added by mistake.
  • Tap Merge PDF and wait for it to finish. Larger files take longer on older phones.
  • Download the result. On Android it normally lands in Downloads; on iPhone, Safari asks before saving and keeps it in the Downloads folder of the Files app.

Getting the order right

The merged file follows the order of the list exactly, so decide the sequence before you tap the button. If a form gives a checklist of documents, follow that order. Otherwise, a sensible order for a job application is: resume, highest qualification, earlier qualifications, then experience letters and ID proof.

Note that the tool joins whole files. It does not shuffle pages inside a single PDF. If you need only page 2 of a long bank statement, or one page is sideways, fix that file first with Split PDF, Delete PDF Pages or Rotate PDF, and then merge the corrected version.

Common mistakes on mobile

Small screens make it easy to miss problems. These are the ones that come up most often.

  • Picking a file from Recent and getting an older copy with the same name
  • Merging a photo that was only renamed to .pdf, which is not a real PDF and may fail
  • Forgetting that the merged file can be much bigger than any single input, and then failing the portal’s size limit
  • Sending the merged PDF without opening it, so a missing or upside-down page goes unnoticed
  • Closing the browser tab before the download has finished

If the merged file is too large

Scanned pages are heavy, and putting six or seven of them together can easily cross a 1 MB or 2 MB upload limit. Open Compress PDF, select the merged file and choose a target size such as 200 KB or 500 KB, or type your own. Compression turns each page into an optimised image, so check afterwards that small print like roll numbers and dates is still clear.

Each file you add to Merge PDF can be up to 100 MB, but very large merges depend on how much memory your phone has. If the browser struggles, merge in two smaller batches and then merge the two results together.

A quick final check

Open the merged PDF in your phone’s PDF viewer and scroll through every page. Count the pages and compare the number with the total of the original files. Rename it to something clear, such as rahul_verma_documents.pdf, before uploading or attaching it. Keep the separate original files too, because another form may later ask for them one by one.
